2016 WSF Annual Salute
I am sitting in the airport at my layover, and going back over last night and the incredible time I had at the 2016 Women's Sports Foundation Annual Salute. New York City is always a fun time, and I got to reunite for the second time with some of the world's most talented and bad-ass females. I didn't feel too much like a rookie this time, but the history of talent and barriers broken within the group of women that attended makes it hard to feel like a vet. I got to spend my evening rubbing shoulders with exceptional athletes and people, including Jackie Joyner-Kersee, a retired track and field star and known to have been the greatest athlete of all time, and Claressa Shields, the first African-American woman to win gold in boxing AND first male or female boxer to do it back to back. Others included Tamika Catchings, WNBA superstar and of course, founder of the WSF, THE Billie Jean King. There were so many more athletes that I grew up watching and now get to have conversations with, and it all seems a bit surreal to me still. I pinch myself when I get to be a part of events like last night's, that recognize and salute women's successes on and off the field. And, being on the athlete advisory panel, I get to see just how hard we all can fight when it comes to getting young girls all over the world access to sports. I am so grateful.
I included some pictures from the event- suit dress from BCBG, heels Calvin Klein, MUA: Jen Wells.
